Shri Jinagiri Tirth

photo

This is a land of penance of many ascetics. The tirth belongs to the times between the third century and the fifth century. It is said that many caves where here for the ascetics to practice their penance. Inscriptions belonging to the period from the ninth to the sixteenth century are available. It is mentioned that many Jain kings took interest in the development of this region. A fair is held here every year from the tenth to the fifteenth day of the bright half of the month of Vaishakh. Jains and non-Jains come to this place for fulfillment of their wishes. At present, the local people call Bhagawan Parshvanath as Appandanadar. The temple has three pinnacles which is a typical example of the cholan style of Architecture. The idol of Bhagawan Chandraprabha found in this temple is very attractive.
