The temple was originally dedicated to Varthamana; later replaced by Adhinatha; it is believed that Gommateswara was the moolnayak in the distant past when there was a Mutt in this place. Sub shrine has Brahmadeva, Padmavathi and Dharmadevi. Manasthampa installed recently. Udayars of this place played a major role in the revival of Jainism threatened by the tyrany of Gingee Nayaks.
