Shri Matar Tirth

photo

This tirth is very ancient. This ancient and miraculous image of Bhagwan Sumatinath was found from the open ground of the village ‘Sudanja’ of the Ahmedabad Taluka. It was formally installed in the splendid temple of Matarin the year 1854 of the vikram era. The tirth was renovated many times. When the idol was being taken to Matar, there was a heavy flood on account of rains on the meeting place on the Vatrak and the Rodhi rivers. All the devotees present there, decided to stand there. But the cart-driver saw sand instead of water. Thus they crossed the river without any difficulty, and the devotees made shouts of joy - ‘True God’. The idol is, therefore, called Bhagawan ‘SachaSumatinath’. Many miracles happened here from time to time
