Shri Metrana Tirth

photo

According to the stone inscription this temple belongs to the period prior to the fourteenth century. This temple remained unknown for a long time. Then a fortunate Shravaka saw a dream and accordingly, this idol along with the idols of Adinath, Shantinath, Kunthunath, and Padmaprabh Swami were found in the year 1899 of the Vikram era. On the auspicious third day of the bright half of the month of Vaishakh of the year 1947 of the Vikram era, these idols were reinstalled by the sangha in the large temple. A Sharvaka lost his life in protecting this idol against a plundering galore and his chaste wife burnt herself alive with her dead husband. Such instances are very rare. On the fifteenth day of the bright half of the months of Kartak and Chaitra and thirteenth day of the bright half of the month of Magsar, a fair is held here every year. The lamp which is kept burning here continuously emits saffron since years.
