Shri Digambar Jain Atishaya Kshetra, Karkal

In 1432, under the then Karkal King Veer Pandav, 13 meter tall Bahubali idol was crafted out. Karkal has 23 Digambar Jain temples, out of which 12 are centuries old. Many temples are know for their sculptures. This temple was built in the year 1514 of the Vikram era. There is mention that the then king gave wealth in gift for building this temple. Even today, the stones of Karnkal are known to be strong and best for building works. In front of the temple, there is an 1800 cms high measuring pillar. It is made of a single stone. It cannot be found elsewhere. The art and idols of sculpturists of this place have made their way into many temples.
