Historical Importance:
The place is currently under Ujjain City. Its ancient name was Avantikapuri. During the Jain regime it was named Ujjain. As per Shwetamber belief Bhagwan Mahaveer was afflicted by Rudra at the cremation center(shamshan) of this place. Muni Abhayghosh got Salvation at this place, due to this the place is known as 'Place of Salvation'. Knowing the future event of famine Badhrabahu drove his huge congregation to South India.
